18: A small ticker tape threads out with someone’s name on it; later that night on the local news our characters learn someone by that name has died

With S.H.E.I.L.D. in almost complete shambles, Fitz was meeting agents he never thought he’d ever in the same room with. Being level 5 (though he wondered how much that mattered anymore) Fitz didn’t know all the details of the mission. Not as much as Natasha did. But he still listened to her anyway. Then there was the strange box. And being mission partners, Fitz thought it would be thought to show it to Natasha. Bad idea. Mostly because then she felt the need to push the button. However, while Fitz dropped and flinched away  from the box, nothing happened. All that was left behind was a name. Nathanial Dawson. Fitz did not know the name and by the looks of it neither did Natasha.

The results of their actions didn’t become obvious until the news was playing in the background later. “Nathanial Dawson died in crossfire in New York City and was killed by his own father.” Fitz could only sit there wide eyes as he stared at the telivison. Did they cause that to happen? Would that man still be alive if they hadn’t hit the button?

natasharomanoffrp:

"Damn it, we need to find it!"

Natasha ignored Clint’s concerned look from where he sat beside her

"I’ll come over to help, but keep looking!"

"I know!"

Fitz didn’t know why he bothered yelling at Natasha. It wouldn’t solve anything and he didn’t know how she would respond to a low rank agent yelling right back at her.

"I’m lookin’. I migh’ have to call up Simmons to ask if she saw it. Dammit"

Natasha let the yelling go without mentioning it in favour of being productive

"Ring and ask her then, the last thing we need is someone else pressing that damn button"

Natasha saw the news, of course she’d seen it; Clint made her watch it every night. But this time it actually caught her attention when she heard the news reporter say “Nathanial Dawson died in crossfire in New York City and was killed by his own father”

Natasha grabbed her phone and dialed a number; “Fitz, what did you do with that box when we got back?”

At hearing the new, Fitz sprinted to the lab. He needed to find that damn box. In the middle of his sprint, and he almost completely ignored it. Out of breath but at least in the lab, Fitz answered his phone not even bothering to look at the name. Only a few had his number.

"I… I don’ know. I thin’ I left it somewhere in da lab." Raking his hand through his hair. Fitz went through his things and tried to find the stupid box but came up with nothing.

"Damn it, we need to find it!"

Natasha ignored Clint’s concerned look from where he sat beside her

Send me WTF for my muses reaction to yours falling through the ceiling randomly

Steve raised his head as he heard a noise and then all of a sudden Natasha was falling through the ceiling, landing right in front of him. “Do you ever manage to enter a room through a door? Has it to be that spy stuff all the time?” He asked with a grin on his face.

"That is the last time I trust something Tony built!" she complained

Steve chuckled. “What was it this time? Don’t tell me you still believe in his abilities when it comes to stuff he invents for us?”

"Clearly I was wrong, next time i’ll listen to Banner"
